Marasmus/Kwashiorkor Condition seen when individuals with or without chronic malnutrition experience some form of acute stress. This acute stress response is characterized by production of inflammatory mediators and counter regulatory hormones leading to inflammation, fever, increased vascular permeability, increased gluconeogenesis, and changes in hepatic protein synthesis. Adrenaline and catacolamines are also elevated as counter-regulatory hormones. We listed the follow symptoms that could be indicative of M/K; weight loss, low Pro, low WBC, low albumin and low transferrin.
