Case2-Nutritional Goals 1. To sufficiently rehydrate the patient and decrease risk of future dehydration after discharge. 2. Increase PO intake. 3. Maintain nutritional status to avoid exacerbating AlzheimerÕs complications. We feel that because the patient was previously dehydrated and malnourished, these deficiencies may have caused her confusion and lethargy. For example, inadequate intakes of thiamin can cause dementia. So we want to make sure the patient is receiving adequate overall nutrition. 4. We want to maintain protein status while repleting overall energy.
