Peripheral Nerve and Vascular Damage In any traumatic automobile accident there is a possibility of nerve damage. The presence of motor function as well as superficial / deep pain sensation in both hind legs rules out the possibility of spinal nerve damage, but allows for the possibility of injury to the peripheral nerves in the hind end. The clinical signs in the case do not lead us to implicate any region of the animal other than the hindlimbs. The inconsistent reflex responses observed during the orthopedic exam suggest possible difficulties in nervous transmission, however the delay could be attributed to the swelling and other musculoskeletal damage in the area.
