Ainsworth

Ainsworth studied patterns of attachment in infants and young children.  Her most famous study involved what was called a "strange situation test", in which the child was left with a stranger in a new environment.  The child's reactions when the mother left and returned were observed.  Ainsworth described three patterns of attachment.
