Nutritional Requirements/ Route of Delivery We are suggesting a Parenteral feeding administered through a central line. Enteral feeding is not appropriate because the inflammation of the small intestine is located in the illeum and enteral feeding at this position would only lead to increased output of the fistula. The fistula is also a long-term (3 to 5 weeks) problem to prompt a parenteral feeding and may have high osmolarity to prompt a central line to prevent the “busting” of a vein during a long-term TPN feeding.
