Learning issues Neoplasia: Where would the mass be located to create a right limb lameness? What radiographs should be taken/diagnostic tests to indicate neoplasia? What types of neoplasia are common in small breed dogs? What are the radiographic signs of metastatic neoplasia? Can neoplasia produce this painful response seen in both stifles? Inflammatory: What is medial buttressing of the stifle joint? Did the anti-inflammatory drugs have any effect other than what the owner noticed? How does trauma lead to lameness (cascade of inflammation)? Why is dorsal flexion of tail painful? Why would cranial drawer be painful? What nerves innervate affected areas (stifle, tail, etc.)? Developmental: Are small breed dogs predisposed to congenital rear limb lameness and how does this manifest? Is there compensatory damage happening to the left side? Is this a progressive degenerative disease _ how would this manifest itself? What diagnostic/palpative tests would be helpful in evaluating limb lameness? What abnormalities would cause medial patellar luxation? Joint capsule changes are seen? What ligaments are affected? Infectious: Could secondary infections/septic emboli cause painful response in rear limbs? What degenerative changes would be seen with bacterial osteomyelitis? What degenerative changes would be seen with infectious arthritis? Nutritional: How would a dog clinically present with calcium deficiency or improper calc/phos ratio? Is this receiving adequate nutrients? What are its requirements? Is it receiving enough energy?
