Management We advise surgery because intermittent luxation can prematurely wear the articular cartilage leading to increased degenerative joint disease. The surgery will consist of measures to restrain the patella within the trochlear groove. 1) Medial restraint release 2) Reinforcement of the lateral retinaculum 3) Trochlear groove deepening 4) Look for meniscal damage during intra-articular surgery, fix whatever problems may exist.
