Prognosis With good diagnostic and surgical technique we can expect a 90-95% success rate for Titan, i.e. it is highly likely she will be able to have pain free ambulation following surgical intervention. In general, post-surgical prognosis for a small breed dog that is not over-conditioned is favorable provided there is not excessive arthritis or other concurrent growth abnormalities. Since our radiographic findings and orthopedic evaluation did not reveal any other concurrent pathology, the overall prognosis for Titan is bright. Occasionally a mild arthritis is associated with the affected stifle post-surgery due to slight irregularities in their gait or slight favoring of the non-affected limb. This arthritis rarely progresses to causing lameness, but the client should none the less be informed of the possibility of it occurring that so Titan can receive the correct palliative medications.
