Client educationŃpost operative instructions Following the surgery we will wrap the incision area with a bandage to make Titan more comfortable as well as restrict excessive movement of the stifle. It is important to keep the bandage clean and dry, and not to allow Titan to chew the bandage. The bandage and sutures will be removed after approximately two weeks, at which time we will access TitanŐs improvement. For the next ten to twelve weeks after surgery, Titan must be restricted to a small room, and walked on a leash only. If necessary, we can provide tranquilizers to keep Titan calm during this time. Physical therapy exercises can be performed several times a day, and Titan can be allowed to swim, once the bandage is removed, as this provides low impact exercise. After TitanŐs time of exercise restriction, we will recheck her progress once more, and at that time discuss how much exercise she will be allowed. Please monitor TitanŐs incision area, watch for swelling, redness or discharge. If any of these signs should occur, please call us immediately. After the rest period it is important to prevent Titan from gaining an excessive amount of weight. Jumping from high objects should also be discouraged. In many cases, arthritis can be expected after surgery. Often this arthritis does not result in lameness. We can provide nutritional supplements to support joint health. Furthermore, tibial crest transposition may cause an internal tibial rotation deformity which may produce an awkward gait, with the hocks pointed out in external rotation. Please call if you have further questions
