Hypothesis 1:Femoral Fracture and Soft Tissue Damage Diffuse soft tissue damage has caused extensive inflammation, leading to swelling which may impinge on joints and nerves, causing pain and resulting in a non-weight bearing lameness in the left hind leg. The soft tissue damage is most likely associated with a fracture (most likely of the femur, due to the fact that its continuity was suspect, but since it could not be precisely located, it could also potentially be a fracture of the pelvis or damage to the hip joint) which further contributes to the non weight- bearing status. As stated in the physical exam, the incontinuity in the right tibia suggests a fracture at that location as well. Due to the fact that this is a traumatic injury, there is also the potential for other complications such as pneumothorax, myocarditis, ruptured bladder/spleen, neurologic damage, shock, etc, which also need to be evaluated in the plan of action. The other two hypotheses are possibly related to this theory in some way.
