Client Instructions Ramon does not seem to have any abdominal or thoracic injuries. However, both his back legs are fractured. The right tibia and the left femur have a complete mid-diaphyseal fractures, which requires surgery for repair. We would like to refer this case to orthopedic surgeon. The surgery will entail the use of bone plates, pins, and wires to properly reduce the fracture and to restore proper bone anatomy. After surgery, he will require cage rest until he is discharged from the hospital. Post-surgical care would require restricted movement of the hindlimbs. However, it is important that Ramon uses the legs to encourage healing. A course of physical therapy should be discussed. Ramon will need extra care and periodic follow up veterinary visits, including radiographs to ensure proper healing and alignment of the bones. Approximate recovery time is around 2 Ð 3 months. Ramon will benefit form a higher quality large breed maintenance diet, which will provide the nutritional plane needed for healing. We would suggest Science diet maintenance or Iams chunks.
