Specialty Exams Results Radiographs: The lateral and DPL views show no evidence of fracture. The bone structure appears normal with no evidence of bone lysis or remodeling. Soft tissue swelling is noted around the fetlock region. Hematology Results: Bloodwork shows slight microcytic anemia. The MCHC is slightly elevated which could be caused by intravascular hemolysis or more probably the result of a difficult venipuncture, causing hemolysis of the red blood cells. Platelet levels are elevated which could be the result of trauma. Plasma protein/firbrinogen ration is less than 10, which is consistent with a physical finding of inflammation. There is a normal leukogram. Cytology Results: The joint fluid analysis showed moderate cellularity, with predominantly small mononuclear cells. Mucin clot is good and the total protein level was high. Culture and Sensitivity revealed a pure growth of Kleibsiella pneumoniae, which was shown to be sensitive to amikacin, gentamicin ceftofur, chloramphenical and enrofloxacin.
