Specialty Exam Results Radiographs: The left metacarpal shows a complete fracture of the diaphysis. A fibrocartilaginous callus has formed cranial to the fracture sight, yet it does not span the bone gap. There is poorly marginated periosteal new bone growth evident along the distal portion of the fracture sight and on the lateral and medial sides of the formed callus. There is some soft tissue swelling that is still present even though it should have dissipated within 7-10 days post trauma. Clinical Pathology: The hematology and urinalysis results were all within normal limits. Culture and sensitivity of the fracture site: The culture revealed a mix of Staph aureus and E. coli. These were shown to be sensitive to second or third generation cephalosporins or a combination of Amoxicillin and Gentamycin.
