Client Education Your foal has an infection in his joint. We will put him on some antibiotics called Amikacin and Penicillin. He will need to be on these medications for several weeks. We will need to see him again in one week to recheck and take more radiographs. He needs to be well confined with exercise kept to a minimum. If he appears worse or develops other symptoms, such as diarrhea, call us immediately. As a future reference, dip the foal's navels in iodine to keep infections from occurring. Keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't get any worse. It is extremely important that he gets his antibiotics every day. This is a very serious disease that could limit his performance ability in the future.
