Hypothesis #1 Developmental abnormalities- If there is abnormal growth of bone, cartilage, or other parts of the joint then the joint as a whole will not function correctly and cause pain. These abnormalities can be either genetic or nutritional in origin, and can result in abnormal bone growth, cartilage development, muscle development, and joint abnormalities. As the animal becomes more active these abnormalities will become apparent with clinical signs such as lameness, joint pain, and decreased activity.
