Hypothesis 1 TraumaÑsoft tissue Since soft tissue swelling is present along with pitting edema, suggests trauma to soft tissue. Is this primary cause of lameness? Manipulation/exam of joint (flexion test) designed to exacerbate the soft tissue or subchondral bone pain often associated with joint disease. No pain in foot (on hoof testing) and no punctures noted, so localized to fetlock. Possibility of partially torn ligament. Further diagnostics necessary.
