- 9 month old Rottweiler. - critical, if developmental problem present. - eats free choice large breed food. - critical, excess nutrients may lead to disproportionate growth. - owners became aware of an awkward gait a few weeks ago. - - right leg seems worse than the left. - lameness seems worse early in the morning and after running around the yard. - walks OK but seems uncomfortable when goes to sit down. - no response to Rimadyl. - ownershave been carrying her up and down the stairs for a week or 2 because she is reluctant to climb up or down stairs. - no history of any trauma. - current on vaccinations. - Current on Frontline¨ and heartworm preventative. - disproportionate amount of weight being carried on the forelegs. - Mild lameness (Grade 1 of 4) was seen, principally in the right hind leg. - ÒclickingÓ in the elbow joints but was not associated with pain, reduced range of motion or crepitance. - Long bone palpation was normal in all legs. - No muscle pain or muscle atrophy was found. - No neurological deficits were found. - Hock and stifle joints were non-painful and appeared stable. - No cranial drawer sign was found. - No joint effusion was seen or palpated. - Palpation of the hip joints produced a pain reaction, more on the right than the left, and more obvious in extension rather than flexion. - The hip ROM was reduced to about 100 degrees. - Ortalani sign was positive on the left hip but we were unable to evaluate it on the right because of pain.
