Diagnostic Plan of Action: Pre-anesthetic blood chemistry profile. CBC to rule out infection (should see neutrophilia). Anesthetize the animal and radiograph the hips (VD with legs pulled caudally and right lateral). Immediately process film and make decision whether we need additional views (for example, chest films if a suspected neoplastic lesion is seen on initial radiographs to rule out metastases). This is important due to the economic concerns of the client. Advise owners to restrict activity level until procedure can be performed.
