False perception of linear acceleration

A visual illusion that may occur during flight is the false perception of linear acceleration. This perception is most likely to occur during conditions of poor external visibility. The false perception of acceleration is most pronounced when there are other external indications of motion, which might include water spray through the rotor blades, wave motions, skip movements, or wind currents in the cockpit.
