Postconventional Level

Sometimes individuals reach Kohlberg's postconventional level of moral development.  At this level, there is less rigid adherence to rules.  Thinking becomes more flexible and an individual may work out his or her own personal code of ethics. Rules are sometimes considered to be based on higher order ethical principles.
